The best thing about being a Christian is GOD!

The Greatest Commandment in the Bible is found in both the Old and New Testaments, taught in the clearest language by Moses and Jesus, God's Son. (Deuteronomy 6:5 and Mark 12:29-30)

As Christians, we should be most interested in GOD HIMSELF! God is a person! He has a personality, character traits revealed through His actions.

Our God is very lovable.

Key Verse: (2) "Forget not his kind deeds" = "Forget not his benefits"

In Psalm 103, David...

(1-2) talks to his own soul, stirring himself up.
(3-5) lists the benefits of God for him (David) personally.
(6-19) lists the great benefits of God's character and actions generally.
(20-22) calls all the angels, creation and God's works to help praise Him too.

Love and praise Him for what He's done for you personally (3-5)

Love and praise Him for his characteristics and actions: who He is (6-19)

Our God is Fair and Just (6)
Our God is Faithful (8&17)

With God, faithfulness is a character trait
Another word for God's kind of faithfulness is steadfastness
And to make things even more amazing, He's faithful to us.

Our God is amazingly forgiving (3, 8-12)

He doesn't deal with us as our sins deserve

Conclusion:

Some practical things to do:

Pray
Dance like David, pour perfume like the forgiven woman, make big changes like the disciples.
Sit down and consider God's benefits.
Put your attention on loving God Himself instead of fretting about people.

Sleepers stop praying
Sleepers don't accept trials as God's will.
Sleepers place confidence in the flesh.

Hardships force us to make decisions about God
Suffering works to grow us as people (James 1:1)
Suffering reminds us that there is more to life than this world
Suffering makes us a lot more sensitive to others who are suffering.
Suffering reminds me that all is not right with the world - it is fallen
Through suffering some people have the grace to see God more clearly
Suffering can work to God's greater glory

"Thanks be to God that suffering doesn't only come to those who "deserve" it."
